Donkey Kong is an exciting video game about the character Mario, whose first name is Jumpman. His mission is to rescue Pauline from the clutches of the ape.

Navigating the Construction Site

In Donkey Kong, the player controls Mario as he climbs a series of platforms to save Pauline. Using a joystick and a single jump button, the player steers Mario left and right, climbing ladders and jumping over hazards. Threats include barrels thrown by Donkey Kong, fireballs that patrol platforms, and other environmental hazards. The player can use the hammer to smash these obstacles, but this only temporarily prevents Mario from climbing or jumping while in use. Each level has its challenge, so the player should time their moves carefully and plan their path to the top. By jumping over obstacles, destroying enemies with the hammer, the player is awarded points and collects bonus items such as umbrellas, hats, and wallets. The game is over if the player loses all their lives due to falling from great heights, touching enemies, or running out of time.

Climbing Through Complexity

Strategic Stages

Donkey Kong has four classic levels that repeat with increasing difficulty. The first is the 25m Barrel Stage, where Mario must avoid rolling barrels and fireballs as he climbs angled girders. The second level names the 50m Conveyor Belt Stage, which introduces moving platforms, shifting conveyor belts, and pies that demand precise timing. Both stages emphasize fast reflexes and pattern recognition, challenging players to react quickly and outmaneuver hazards in real time.

The Final Confrontation

The third level is the 75m Elevator Course, which increases the challenge with vertically moving platforms and bouncing springs. This level can take Mario down if the timing is wrong. The final stage is the 100m Rivet Course, where players must remove all the rivets by walking over them to collapse Donkey Kong's structure and save the damsel. Once all four stages are completed, the game loops back to the beginning, but with increased speed and greater difficulty, pushing players' skills and reflexes to the limit as they strive for higher scores.
